It’s no secret, the world is obsessed with every move the Kardashians make. For me my fascination with them is how every single one of tightly knit Kardashian clan continue to market and brands themselves. I imagine one day that some fancy research place will publish one heck of a case study, of epic length on this family. As a digital marketer I personally would devour this social media bible, in one sitting, over a couple of bottles of red wine from Stag Leap and some French inspired macaroons from Bouchon.
Whether, Ari Gold like superstar momager and matriarch Kris Karadashian Jenner is the brainchild behind these reality star beauties, as a family they have racked up some pretty sizable bank in knowing how to exploit the media’s intense fascination with them. In the November 2017 issue of lifeandstylemag.com the Kardashian net worth was stated somewhere in the $450 million range. As a collective the Kardashians, active social media users and original digital strategists have stratosphered their businesses to a billion dollar brand to be reckoned with.
Watching the show for over 10 years, I’ve watched the family grow from being awkward and genuinely authentic in front of the camera to being more glammed up and more polished because they’ve been so scrutinized. While watching their 10 year anniversary special with their friend American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, the thought crossed my mind that if the Kardashians had to leave reality TV what would their day jobs be?
Each one of them have different interests and talents but the three that I have grown to admire most not only for their fashion and makeup savvy but for their spot on keen business sense would be the original trio of Kim, Khloe and Kourtney.
Let’s start with Kim. If Kim wanted to disappear from the reality television spot light, Kim has the DNA of continuing to be a successful entrepreneur. While she is historically the most business savvy and the one that claims she’s the hardest working one of all, the one and only way she’s organically built her brand is by being the visionary who sees way ahead of where the trends are in the digital world.
Maybe Kim can’t code or read HTML tags but she knows digital, like nobody’s business. If Wikipedia had to post one photo to describe the phrase social media, Kim’s picture would be on that listing. As you watch Kim throughout the ten years you see she’s dabbled in technology ventures like her KImoji app, an interactive website where she blogs and vlogs, design and fashion ventures like the Kardashian clothing line for Sears, specialty retail projects like her co-owned Dash stores with her siblings. Know that whatever Kim decides to invest her time in the one thing for sure is that she strategizes like nobody’s business to use digital media positioning to promote whatever she’s hawking.
Which now brings me back to how Kim has continued to brand herself as an entrepreneur extraordinaire. There isn’t a field that’s she’s not leading nor involved in. As a multipureneur she is a powerhouse on how she attacks every new product launch of business opening. If you’re a new entrepreneur with an idea which you need to promote whether it’s a new hipster organic coffee shop or a cool sneaker head e-commerce Amazon store, social media and carving out a plan of attack is crucial to any successful business or product launch. Traditional ways of marketing like advertising on brochures and magazines isn’t going to stratosphere your business to any level. While it’s a good idea to have a tiered strategy of how to promote your business, what you need at the beginning of any startup or product launch is reach. And reach is what Kim is an expert as.
This now brings me to Khloe, everyone’s favorite sister and friend who is also an entrepreneur but what she’s succeeded in doing different in her brand is not as calculated nor obvious unless you’ve been watching the show.
If Khloe were to leave the reality world and call it a day by retiring in Ohio with her NBA boyfriend, Khloe would leave a big hole in the family as she is everyone’s go to because she’s literally in the middle of everything.
Whether she’s advising Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna on relationships or guiding Scott Disick on his latest frustrations with Kourtney Kardashian’s dating game, or telling Kourtney to move on with her life, the one thing for sure, Khloe loves to give advice and give plenty of it.
Khloe not only gives great and thoughtful advice but she’s managed to stay Switzerland (and survive) in a family dynamic that is always full of drama and loaded with personalities that range from manic to bi-polar. There isn’t a sedate Kardashaian in the bunch and Khloe beautifully manages to give good advice where she maintains life coach or marriage counselor status. As far as branding herself for life outside the reality world, Khloe does what psychiatrists and professionals in the life coach and advising field should be doing.Khloe opens her heart, uses common sense and passionately loves people and wants to help them, at the same she knows how to diplomatically put her expertise out there about love, life, family and relationships. Professionals in these kind of fields should take note because Khloe is now successfully transitioning to another field now, not psychology in a formally trained sense but instead in the mindset coaching field of health and wellness with her Revenge Body talk show.
Last but not least and who I consider as the “most chill,” Kardashian is the gorgeous and dedicated mompreneur Kourtney Kardashian. Obsessed with fashion and design, remember she was the Head Buyer and decision maker for the Dash stores, Kourtney is primed to become the Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray of the home decorating and cooking business. Not only does Kourtney eat the cleanest of all the Kardashians but she’s managed to teach and train her kids on how to eat healthy and meticulously keep their contemporary home clutter free and nicely maintained.
Throughout the years, Kourtney has displayed enough design credentials that she is even scored an Architectural Digest cover. A feat which is only reserved for The Who’s Who is well heeled and New York based celebrities with hefty trust accounts.
When you watch Kourtney on the show you get the feeling that if she wasn’t on reality tv that she would just be as happy living her life with her small troupe of children and building a quaint and multimillion dollar empire like Shabby Chic creator and interior decorator Rachel Ashwell.
The one thing that would make Kourtney successful as a interior design expert is her Kourtney drive to make sure the details are always handled. in Whether it’s decorating a new home for Scott Disick or for her and the kids, post Disick, Kourtney has a taste for the finer things life. From sourcing the coolest couch for her beautiful home to making sure her patio has the right color outdoor cushions, her love for decorating is evident.
So in another world in another time and maybe it’s another show, the Kardashians would succeed in whatever their choice of career because throughout the years they’ve build strong digital branding skills based on their personalities and their passions.
